- Investigational
- • Because present treatment programs for advanced mesothelioma usually do not have a major impact on the
- disease, we strongly recommend participation in clinical trials of new forms of therapy.
- • Important studies are currently under way with combined treatment therapy, using, for example, surgery and
- chemotherapy (cyclophosphamide + doxorubicin + dacarbazine) in combination with abdominal radiotherapy .
- • Another current trial involves the removal of larger tumor nodules, followed by intraperitoneal chemotherapy
- with cisplatin and doxorubicin and a "second-look" operation to determine response. Radiotherapy is given if
- there has been complete control of the tumor and more chemotherapy is given before the radiation treatment if
- there is any residual disease left. The preliminary results of this combined program did produce a very
- significant response rate with acceptable toxicity.
